At Gene Global LLC (“Gene,” “we,” or “us”), we take the protection of personal data and compliance with applicable privacy laws seriously. This Privacy Policy explains when and how Gene processes personal data that it manages. This external policy does not apply to how we process personal data as an employer of our own employees.

To subscribe to our newsletter, we need your email address (which we process). After signing up, we will send you a confirmation email. You can easily update your newsletter preferences or unsubscribe completely via the links at the bottom of each email we send. The legal basis for processing your personal data for our newsletter is your consent.
Website Visit
When you visit our website (https://gene.so), we automatically gain access to certain personal data, such as your IP address. We also use cookies. Through the use of these cookies, we may gain access to and process additional personal data. For privacy-sensitive cookies, we ask for your consent before using them (via our cookie banner). See our Cookie Policy for more information, including how to delete cookies. The legal basis for processing your personal data when you visit our website is consent (if you accept all our cookies) and/or a legitimate interest (namely, enabling and optimizing your website experience).
When You Contact Us
If you contact us (via our website or otherwise), we will, of course, process the personal data you provide to us. In this case, we do not use your data for other purposes. The legal basis for processing your personal data when you contact us is a legitimate interest (namely, to respond optimally to your inquiry) or, depending on the nature of your request, to take the necessary steps to enter into a contract with you.
During a Customer Relationship
If you or the company you work for becomes a customer of Gene, we may process certain personal data in that context. For example, to communicate with you via email (or otherwise) or to provide you with access to an account that allows you to use our product/service. The legal basis for processing your personal data during a customer relationship is the performance of the contract with our customer.
In any case, we only retain your personal data for as long as necessary to achieve the above-mentioned purposes.
Sharing Personal Data with Third Parties
We only share personal data with third parties when strictly necessary in the context of the aforementioned purposes. This happens only occasionally, and in all cases, we only work with trusted third parties. These third parties are not allowed to use the personal data for their own purposes. At this time, we use HubSpot as a service provider to manage and send our newsletter.
Transfers of personal data outside the EEA
If we transfer personal data outside the EEA (for example, when working with a third party located outside the EEA or processing personal data on servers outside the EEA), we always ensure appropriate safeguards to protect the personal data involved. To this end, we also make appropriate contractual arrangements with the relevant third party (including the use of the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses for data transfers).
Your Privacy Rights
Under the GDPR, you have certain rights regarding the company or organization that manages your personal data (in this case, Gene). First, you have the right to request access to your personal data or to request rectification or deletion of your personal data. You also have the right to object to (or request the restriction of) the processing of your personal data, as well as the right to data portability. Where we process your personal data based on your consent (for example, in the case of our newsletter), you can withdraw that consent at any time. Finally, you have the right to file a complaint with the relevant supervisory authority (in the Netherlands, this is the Dutch Data Protection Authority – Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
